The company describes a five-step process: consultation, planning, contract and scheduling, demolition and installation, and maintenance. The first consultation is free, and the team surveys the site, asks about access, and discusses how realistic a vision is against a budget. Design work is custom on every project, and can take the form of visual brainstorming on site, overhead CAD schematics, or picturescaping, in which a digital photo of the site is landscaped on a computer and emailed for approval. Owner-provided designs and magazine pictures are also accepted. Installation typically begins with demolition of the existing landscape to expose the areas to be worked, followed by rough grading, hardscape footings and subgrade work, assembly and finish work, plantings, and a final cleanup. The company maintains landscapes it installs, and states that its staff brings many years of combined experience. Clients can meet with company owner Benjamin Silverman to discuss performance and achievements.

The business is located at 1125 Nord Ave in Chico, about a tenth of a mile from Nord Avenue and a short distance from University Village. Big Chico Creek is roughly four tenths of a mile away, with Brynwood Park and Bidwell River Park each about half a mile from the location, and Nettleton Stadium about six tenths of a mile away.

Blue Oak Landscaping has built a reputation among the customers it has served, backed by an established track record and a large base of customer reviews.

For Chico homeowners planning a custom landscape, Blue Oak Landscaping pairs a free first consultation and a defined design-through-install process with a team that also maintains the landscapes it builds.
