851 Music Studio

851 Music Studio is a music school in Benicia, CA, offering private and group lessons in guitar, piano, drums, bass, and voice for students of all ages. The school provides individual instruction, ensemble workshops and jam sessions, performance opportunities, and access to practice tools including interactive web resources and Apple iMacs used for ear training, recording, scoring, and other student projects. The studio is open six days a week by appointment, running from about 10AM to as late as 9PM, and extends a complimentary first lesson to newcomers. It holds a rating of 5.00 from its customers.

Established in 2006, the studio has spent twenty years building a teaching environment that blends professional instruction, vintage equipment, and modern technology. Its origin traces to the unexpected closure of a Benicia music store after the passing of its owner; the teachers responded by creating a new space where local students could continue to learn, create, and belong. Thousands of students have passed through the program since then, including children, teens, and adults, many of whom have gone on to perform in bands, record in studios, compose original music, or maintain a lifelong connection to playing. The teaching philosophy centers on the idea that music is a language the body absorbs before the mind can explain it, emphasizing confidence, focus, feel, and sustained curiosity over rushed progress. The current teaching staff includes Jeff Campitelli, J. Shelby, and Garrett Mingardi, described by the studio as professional, courteous, and expert.

The school operates from 1043 Grant Street in Benicia, situated roughly a fifth of a mile from the Benicia Arsenal and about half a mile from the Museum of History, Benicia. Benicia Bridges Vista Point and the surrounding Vista Point lie just over half a mile away, and the Luther E Gibson Freeway is also within roughly three-fifths of a mile of the front door.

For families and adult learners across Benicia and the broader Bay Area, twenty years of continuous teaching, a five-star customer rating, and a curriculum that pairs deep listening with practical music-making remain the studio's core identity.
