Sue Oda Landscape Architect

Sue Oda Landscape Architect is a landscaping firm in Albany, CA. The practice designs elegant, environmentally friendly outdoor living areas that complement the surrounding architecture, serving residential and commercial clients with projects that include community gardens, playgrounds, and public spaces. Sue Oda works one-on-one with each client to shape gardens that reflect the personality and priorities of the people who use them, drawing on a wide range of styles with particular experience in native, low-maintenance, and Japanese gardens. The firm holds a 4.10 rating from those who have reviewed it.

The practice is a boutique landscape design firm offering a full-service approach that begins with a consultation to identify goals for the property and garden. From there, the team prepares a proposal outlining deliverables that typically include a schematic design, construction documents, and an online client folder with plant descriptions. Sue Oda, the principal, designed her first landscape at eight years old and has since worked with hundreds of clients. She began her career in residential and commercial landscape design before becoming a landscape architect with the City of Oakland, where she created community gardens, playgrounds, and other spaces, and later returned to private practice. She is licensed by the State of California and certified by the Council of Landscape Architectural Boards. The firm is also a certified green business, with expertise in labor- and water-conserving gardens, including Bay-Friendly Landscaping, a holistic approach that works in harmony with the natural conditions of the San Francisco Bay Watershed through low-water plants, reduced fertilizer use, and healthy soil practices.

The office sits on Evelyn Ave, just a short walk from Middle Creek and the Ohlone Greenway, with San Gabriel Mini-Park, Albany Middle School, and Cerrito Creek all within a few hundred metres.

In Albany and the broader Bay Area, the firm's reputation rests on a highly personalized process, close attention to detail, and a consistent record of gardens that earn compliments from neighbors and passersby.
