E.F. Akins and his son W.A. Akins came to the community, known as Dogtown, in the early 1920s and purchased the land and building that still stands today. They opened a general merchandise store. After World War II, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Akins began selling used furniture from the living room of their house next door. A furniture room was eventually added to the general merchandise store. Subsequent additions expanded the location to over 150,000 square feet. The Akins family now spans four generations, bringing over eighty years of furniture experience to the community.

The business owns the land and building, meaning there is no downtown lease or rental payment. The store does not invest in fancy advertisements, relying instead on satisfied customers to spread the word. The inventory includes sofas, loveseats, beds, and recliners. Specific items feature reinforced frames, high-resiliency foam cushions, and platform foundation systems that resist sagging. Some products are made with top grain leather or water-repellent faux leather. Certain recliners offer power controls, zero-gravity mechanisms, and USB plug-in capabilities. Some items must be special ordered to the store.

The business holds a positive rating from the customers who have reviewed it. This reputation reflects the value provided through its direct-from-factory purchasing model and long-standing presence in the area.
