Northwoods Family Medicine

Northwoods Family Medicine is a doctor's office in Wasilla, Alaska, providing primary care to patients of all ages. The clinic accepts new patients and offers annual physicals, school and sports physicals, DOT exams, FAA basic medical exams, well-baby and child exams, women's health and men's health services, and wellness and preventative medicine. Its providers also handle chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, and asthma, along with minor illnesses including colds, flu, respiratory infections, ear infections, and urinary tract infections. Additional services include wound care, joint therapies, remote patient monitoring, allergy testing and immunotherapy, cancer screenings, travel exams, adult and child vaccinations, and minor procedures such as toenail, wart, and mole removal.

The practice is led by Dr. Adam Greathouse, DO, Don Smith, PA-C, and Kara Boothby, PA-C. Dr. Greathouse moved to Alaska in 1981, studied at the University of Utah, attended medical school at Des Moines University in Iowa, and completed residency at the Providence Family Medicine Residency in Anchorage. He has seen patients in Wasilla since 2002. Don Smith graduated from Penn State in 1991 and from the St. Francis College PA program, worked in orthopedics specializing in knee injuries and surgery, and began practicing in a Wasilla primary and urgent-care clinic in 1999. Kara Boothby graduated from the University of Alaska - Anchorage with a Bachelor of Health Sciences and completed her Physician Assistant program through MEDEX Northwest, University of Washington in 2020. She has worked in the Mat-Su Valley healthcare system for over 19 years as a critical care paramedic, firefighter, and EMS battalion chief.

The clinic sits on East Palmer-Wasilla Highway, about a tenth of a mile from the UMV Wasilla government office and a short distance from East Parks Highway. Pedersen Park, Wayland University, and Cottonwood Creek are each roughly four tenths of a mile away.

The providers have practiced in the Wasilla area for many years and have built relationships with specialists in the area and in Anchorage for referrals and coordinated care. Appointments are by appointment only, with no walk-in appointments, and the office is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, closing for lunch from noon to 1 pm.
