Furniture Enterprises of Alaska

Furniture Enterprises of Alaska is a furniture store in Alakanuk, Alaska, with corporate operations at 940 E 38th Ave in Anchorage. The company operates 14 stores across Alaska under the Sadler's, Williams & Kay, Ashley, The Ultimate Mattress Store, La-Z-Boy and Mattress Firm names, offering living room, bedroom and dining room furniture, mattresses and sleep systems, fine home furnishings, accent items and custom orders. It serves the Anchorage, Eagle River and Mat-Su Valley areas and holds a rating of 4.10.

The company began with Dave Cavitt's first job in home furnishings in 1975 as a delivery man at Sadler's Furniture, working his way up to partner. He and Rachel Cavitt purchased Sadler's in 1988, and the two built the business one store at a time. Williams and Kay opened in 1992 to specialize in made-to-order furniture and interior design, followed by Alaska's only La-Z-Boy store and, in 1995, The Ultimate Mattress Store. Ashley Home Store locations in Anchorage and Fairbanks followed, and the company became the Alaska franchise for Mattress Firm in 2016, opening four locations. Sadler's itself has served Alaskans since 1972, starting as a single small store in Chugiak.

Buying teams shop every major U.S. furniture market and travel to Europe, China, Vietnam and Mexico to select products for Alaskan customers. The company flows nearly 100 containers of furniture a month through a 100,000-square-foot distribution center, and its operations account for the challenges of retailing in Alaska, including cold dry winters, longer shipping times and complex logistics. Dave Cavitt has served on home furnishings associations and boards, and daughter Hayley has worked in warehouse, delivery, sales and administrative roles.

The company is 100 percent Alaskan owned, and its stated focus is only on home furnishings and only in Alaska. It holds a 4.10 rating from customers who have reviewed it.
